Whataburger Opening in Irmo on September 9

Irmo, SC— Craving a taste of Whataburger? Residents in the Midlands won’t have to wait much longer. A new Whataburger restaurant is slated to open at 185 Dutch Fork Road on September 9 at 11 a.m., the company announced recently.

Whataburger’s senior public relations specialist, Miranda Grubbs, confirmed that plans for the grand opening are still being finalized. However, if history is any indication, early birds may be in for a treat. Typically, the first few people in line are rewarded with free Whataburger for a year, while the next several hundred customers receive special gift packs. Additionally, Whataburger often organizes special activities in the parking lot during these events.

The Irmo location will be the fourth Whataburger in South Carolina, and it comes on the heels of new openings in Mauldin, Boiling Springs, and Greenville earlier this year. The restaurant chain, founded in 1950, now boasts over 1,030 locations nationwide. Whataburger’s expansion into South Carolina moves the company into its 16th state, an achievement they’re calling their “Sweet 16.”

More Locations on the Horizon

Whataburger has ambitious plans for further expansion within the state. **Victor Trevino**, public relations manager at Whataburger, confirmed the following upcoming South Carolina locations slated to open later this year and into 2024:

  • Late Summer 2024: 2900 Main St., Anderson, SC 29621
  • Fall 2024: 202 Bridgeberry Lane, Columbia, SC 29203
  • Fall 2024: 1941 E Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307
  • Fall 2024: 1510 W.O. Ezell Blvd., Spartanburg, SC 29301
  • Fall 2024: 888 S. Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072
  • Late Fall: 5648 Calhoun Memorial Parkway, Easley, SC 29640

What to Expect on Opening Day

While specifics of the opening day lineup and activities are still under wraps, past events offer some insight. Early arrivals might expect to see tents and booths in the parking lot, along with various games and activities to keep the crowd entertained. The first few guests to walk through the doors could be poised to enjoy Whataburger’s signature menu items—such as their famous burgers, fries, and shakes—absolutely free for an entire year.

Stay tuned for more details as the grand opening date approaches. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the brand, the arrival of Whataburger in Irmo is set to blend hearty Texan flavors with the southern hospitality unique to South Carolina.

Keep an eye out for updates on Whataburger’s entry into the Midlands. If you plan on attending the grand opening, it’s advisable to arrive early to grab a spot in line and possibly walk away with some exciting freebies.
