Greenwood, SC, November 11, 2024 – Exciting news is buzzing across the Lakelands region as West Carolina pledges a $25,000 donation to a vital healthcare initiative. This contribution is set to empower the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation’s 3-D Mobile Mammography Unit, greatly improving access to breast mammography for thousands in the region.
The journey of this initiative kicked off in October 2023, driven by an impressive leading donation of $250,000 from The Dabo and Kathleen Swinney All In Team Foundation. Such a funding boost aims to supply the area with top-tier breast imaging technology, pivotal in early breast cancer detection, ultimately increasing survival chances.
The impact of such a move is significant given that breast cancer ranks as the most diagnosed cancer among women in South Carolina. With one in eight women being diagnosed with breast cancer, the availability of 3-D mammography, a reputed leader in early detection methods, is critical. The earlier a potential problem is identified, the better the chances of successful treatment, making this assistance a lifesaver for many.
West Carolina aligned their donation with Breast Cancer Awareness Month purposefully, emphasizing increased awareness and the importance of early detection. Jeff Wilson, leading at the helm of West Carolina, shared, “This year, we focused on raising awareness about early detection among our employees. We gifted every employee a pink West Carolina t-shirt and care package to emphasize the importance of screenings.”
More than just words, Wilson explained their tangible strides in enhancing healthcare, “Taking this commitment further by supporting the Mobile Mammography Unit, which has the power to save lives, is something we’re deeply proud of.” He also showered praise on Self Regional Healthcare, recognizing their tireless contributions to the community, “Self Regional is a tremendous force for good in our communities. By delivering high-quality healthcare, they contribute significantly to the vitality of this area.”
The enthusiasm for aiding in this remarkable project extends beyond any single donation. This endeavor is part of the broader Self Regional Healthcare Foundation’s Equation For Progress Campaign, which focuses on creating a comprehensive breast center of excellence for women. Ken Coffey, the Executive Director of the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation, hailed West Carolina’s support, “West Carolina’s incredibly generous gift ties in perfectly with the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation’s campaign.”
John Cooper, Chair of the Foundation Board of Trustees, expressed collective gratitude not just to West Carolina but also to the entire community’s donor base for backing this promising initiative. He acknowledged, “Charitable support from our community allows us to continue investing in the latest technology and innovations enhancing the quality and access to healthcare.”
Presently, the Foundation is well on its way to achieving its ambitious goal. Having already raised nearly $600,000, the pursuit of obtaining a 3-D Mobile Mammography vehicle is in exciting progress, with the project requiring a total outlay of approximately $1 million.
The selfless nature of these initiatives is a beacon of hope, rallying a community in the fight against breast cancer. Each step, each donation brings us closer to a future where early detection and effective treatment can be a universal reality.
For anyone eager to join hands in this noble cause, information and support options are readily available through Self Regional Healthcare Foundation.
