Hello from sunny Greenwood, where the skies are clear, and the temperatures are rising. With abundant sunshine and a very warm day on the cards, locals can expect highs reaching up to 82°F. If you’re looking to catch the best of today’s weather, a westerly breeze between 5 to 10 mph might just provide that perfect touch of coolness for an outdoor adventure. As night falls, the temperature is set to dip a bit, predicting a low of 61°F, accompanied by a clear and starry sky.
But, as always, Greenwood is more than just its beautiful weather! On October 9th, an incident unfolded along the bustling Milwee Avenue, which has left quite a buzz in the town. The Greenwood police conducted a traffic stop after spotting a man speeding on his motorcycle. However, what appeared to be a simple fast-paced ride quickly swirled into a sequence of troubling events.
The man in question, reportedly 59 years old and residing on Towne Street, was alleged to have resisted the officers several times. When initial verbal commands didn’t yield compliance, police resorted to the use of a Taser. They reported that the motorcyclist attempted to flee and, somewhere in this apparent chaos, tried to destroy evidence.
A search of the motorcycle led the officers to a startling discovery. They found 6.8 grams of cocaine and 1.5 grams of marijuana. Further details from the incident reveal that charges against him include possession of 28 grams or less of marijuana, and possession with the intent to distribute cocaine—a charge made heavier as it includes a third offense. Interestingly, the area of arrest was noted to be within proximity of a school.
Upon delving into his past, it becomes apparent that the motorcyclist isn’t unfamiliar with similar allegations. Previous records show that he has been twice convicted of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine. Dates of past convictions include March 3, 1999, and a recent brush with the law on May 11, 2024. Certainly, not the kind of track record one would hope to maintain in this otherwise picturesque Greenwood life.
Now, with charges like resisting arrest and obstructing justice added to an already substantial list, the legal proceedings ahead promise to be nothing short of serious. Family, friends, and indeed the entire Greenwood community are left reflecting on recent events, hopefully aiming to build a future free of such ominous episodes.
Remember, while the warmth of today’s sunshine embraces our town, a prudent reminder stands – the roads are for everyone’s safety. Let’s drive responsibly to enjoy all the positivity a day like this is set to bring.
