Hey Sunnyville! We’ve got a lineup of activities for this weekend that you definitely don’t want to miss. But before you grab your gear and head out, there’s a bit of weather news you need to know. It’s going to be cloudy with a chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm. The high will be around 84°F with southeasterly winds at 5 to 10 mph. By evening, expect some thunderstorms with a low of 69°F and an 80% chance of rain. Now that you’re updated, let’s dive into what’s happening around town!
If you’re a runner or just looking for a good cause to support, consider joining the 5k run organized by H4AR (Here For A Reason) at the Greenwood Genetic Center at 8:30 a.m. This local nonprofit, dedicated to suicide prevention and mental wellness, was started by Beth Justesen after her husband’s suicide in 2017. Even if you’re not a seasoned runner, it’s a great event to show your support. Registrations are still open on race day.
Continuing our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Arts Center of Greenwood at 120 Main St. will feature an art exhibit now through October 5. Holland Wolf was recently spotted showing her favorite pieces to her father, Landon, during the exhibition’s open reception last Friday.
For history enthusiasts, don’t miss out on Lamar Garrard’s “Augusta’s World Series Stars” exhibit housed in the Georgia Heritage Room of the Augusta-Richmond County Public Library. This exhibit is open from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., on the third floor of the Headquarters Library at 823 Telfair St. in Augusta.
Despite the predicted rainfall, the third Annual Connie Maxwell Corn Maze will still be happening this Friday and Saturday. Located on the grounds filled with food trucks, kids’ zones, petting zoos, and fall décor including pumpkins and mums, it’s a fall festivity you won’t want to miss. For more details and tickets, visit conniemaxwell.com/cornmaze.
This Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., you’ll want to be at the Bowie Arts Center at Erskine College for the opening receptions of two brilliant art exhibitions: “The Word Made Visible” by Grace Carol Bomer and “Piercing the Veil” by Brian Hibbard. There is also a reception during Erskine College homecoming on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. These exhibitions will be on view until December 15, and the Arts Center is open Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
If live music is more your jam, let me guide you through the musical labyrinth. Here’s what our local music scene looks like according to Granger:
With so many events, it might be hard to choose just one. But don’t let me hear there’s nothing to do this weekend!
Have a fantastic weekend, Sunnyville!
