Greenwood, S.C. – In a move aimed at addressing the pressing issue of mental health, the Greenwood County Community Foundation (GCCF) has awarded Community Enhancement funding to Tranquility Point. This funding will facilitate the introduction of the “Intervene Challenge” training sessions, focusing on suicide awareness and prevention.
The “Intervene Challenge” aims to provide essential training for a wide range of community members, including first-responders, veteran groups, health workers, and foster care providers. The initiative seeks to equip these vital community service members with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively intervene and provide support in situations where individuals may be at risk of suicide.
Tranquility Point, a well-respected organization dedicated to mental health awareness, has taken the lead on this project. They are backed by funding and support from GCCF. The collaboration was officially marked by a gathering where key representatives from both Tranquility Point and GCCF were present to discuss the importance of this initiative.
Present at the event were:
These individuals represent the cornerstone of the effort to bring more awareness to mental health issues within Greenwood County.
The “Intervene Challenge” training sessions are designed to be thorough and comprehensive. Participants will learn how to recognize the warning signs of suicide, how to approach and talk to individuals who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts, and how to ensure they get the necessary help and support.
Barry Gambrell, President of Tranquility Point, highlighted the significance of the funding and the planned training sessions. “This is a crucial step in bridging the gap between mental health awareness and actionable intervention. We are grateful to GCCF for the support and the opportunity to make a real difference in our community,” he said.
The training is set to roll out over the coming months, with sessions being organized across various locations within Greenwood County to ensure maximum participation and reach. For more detailed information about the training sessions and to get involved, interested parties can contact Tranquility Point at tranquilitypointretreat@gmail.com.
