South Carolina Arts Alliance Board to Meet in Greenwood

Greenwood, SC — The South Carolina Arts Alliance (SCAA) Board of Directors will convene at the Arts Center of Greenwood on August 23-24 for their annual retreat. The board members will dive into strategic planning and hold their first business meeting of the new fiscal year during this two-day event.

Tour of Local Arts and Cultural Assets Planned

One of the highlights of the retreat will be a special tour of Greenwood’s local arts and cultural assets, organized with the help of Discover Greenwood. This tour will showcase the richness of the town, known as one of South Carolina’s twelve Cultural Districts.

Welcoming New Board Members

The retreat will also see the introduction of five new board members who joined on July 1st. In their honor, a small reception will be held on Friday evening, bringing together board members and local leaders.

Focus on Enriching Economies through Arts

“As one of South Carolina’s twelve Cultural Districts, Greenwood is a wonderful example of how investing in the arts and local history enriches economies and overall quality of life throughout the state,” stated SCAA President Dana Gencarelli.

About the South Carolina Arts Alliance

Founded in 1979, the SCAA is the only statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to advocacy, leadership development, and public awareness for the arts. Board members represent various communities from across the state. Sylvia Martin, Executive Director of the Arts Center of Greenwood, has been a board member since 2022.

In recent efforts, the Alliance has been advocating for increased state funding to support arts organizations and education. They have also conducted workshops, trainings, and gathered over 350 arts leaders, artists, educators, students, and advocates at the State House in February for their annual SC Arts Day.
