Greenwood, S.C. – Good news for Greenwood County! All roads are back open after a hazmat incident along the railroad tracks on Thursday evening. The Greenwood City Police Department reported that a small acetone leak from a train car caused some commotion near Highway 10, specifically between Tranquil Road and Sagewood Road.
According to deputies, the leak prompted a temporary shutdown of Highway 10 as crews worked to get things under control. However, the roads are now clear, and traffic can flow normally again.
During the incident, nearby residents were notified about the acetone leak. Thankfully, no one was forced to leave their homes, and there was no mandatory evacuation.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Greenwood County Fire Department, the Greenwood City Fire Department, and CSX. These teams are working diligently to determine the cause and ensure that such incidents are avoided in the future.
