Election Results: A Fresh Start for the Abbeville County School District

Despite the gloomy skies, there’s a cheer in the air as Ralph Scott, Keith Dunn, and Trey Moore have emerged victorious in yesterday’s election for the Abbeville County School District board of trustees.

Scott, who received 440 votes to Devada Kimsey’s 330 votes for Seat 4, expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported his campaign. Having been on the board since April 2023, he’s keen on tackling the budget challenges the district is facing. Speaking to trusted associates, Scott mentioned, “We’re going to do our best to keep taxes low and continue to do what’s best for our students.”

In the race for Seat 6, Moore gained 706 votes, outrunning Darren Gray, who collected 544 votes. Moore shared his excitement about working for the district’s children, saying he’s been amazed by the community’s unity in support of the youth.

Dunn, winning Seat 8 with 637 votes against Jonathan Stoll’s 338, continues his long-standing service as board chairman. With eight years under his belt, Dunn credits his experience for providing a “solid foundation in school district governance” and is looking forward to contributing to capital improvements alongside newly elected members and the district superintendent.

Unopposed Candidates: Bryon and Johnson to Serve Districts 1 and 5

On the unopposed front, Joe Bryon and Marion Johnson have smoothly secured positions for districts 1 and 5, respectively. With fresh faces and experienced hands at play, the district is all set for some invigorating changes!

Former Candidates Reflect

Meanwhile, Darren Gray, currently teaching at Northside Middle School in Greenwood County, took on the election to give back. His campaign was well-received, and he looks forward to seeing continued prosperity in the district.

Jonathan Stoll, a committed father, highlighted his determination to ensure the best public education possible. He graciously congratulated Keith Dunn on the victory and expressed his ongoing support for Abbeville’s educational endeavors.

Looking Ahead: Collaborative Efforts for the Future

The new and returning board members are poised to roll up their sleeves and get to work. From budget adjustments to capital improvement projects, the board is prepared to tackle upcoming challenges with a fresh dose of energy and commitment.

It looks like rain won’t wash away our spirits today—congratulations to all the candidates and heartfelt support from the community has set a promising path forward. So, brave those light and variable winds, grab an umbrella, and celebrate this exciting new chapter for Abbeville County!
