Bishopville Prisoner Stabbed to Death in Lee Correctional Institution Incident

Bishopville Inmate Incident: South Carolina Prisoner Stabbed to Death

BISHOPVILLE, SC — In a tragic turn of events, a prisoner at the high-security Lee Correctional Institution was stabbed to death, as confirmed by the South Carolina Department of Corrections. The incident occurred on Tuesday and claimed the life of 23-year-old Idris Wasim Ballard Gallardo.

Gallardo, who was serving a 25-year sentence for a conviction on a voluntary manslaughter charge from Greenwood County, had been incarcerated since 2020. He was transferred to Lee Correctional Institution, a maximum-security prison that has been operational since 1993, in 2023.

This unfortunate event happened in a common area of Gallardo’s assigned housing unit. Authorities revealed that although it transpired around 10 a.m., Gallardo sadly succumbed to his injuries shortly after. An autopsy is forthcoming to gain deeper insights into his death.

The South Carolina Department of Corrections is treating Gallardo’s death as a suspected homicide. This means thorough investigations are now underway by the Department’s Inspector General’s office. To ensure a comprehensive and meticulous examination, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s crime scene unit and the Lee County Coroner are also actively assisting in this probe.

Weather Forecast

Even as Bishopville faces tough times following this unfortunate incident, residents and those in the vicinity should brace for a partly gloomy, yet somewhat manageable day. Today’s weather is expected to be cloudy with a slight chance of a rain shower. Temperatures will peak around 77°F, with winds remaining light and variable.

As evening progresses, the skies are predicted to clear up slightly, turning partly cloudy later. Again, there could be a slight chance of a rain shower. Overnight temperatures will drop to a low of 64°F, with winds staying light and variable, making the night slightly more comfortable.

This series of weather transitions might be indicative of a somewhat unpredictable week, so always consider carrying an umbrella just in case those showers decide to visit after all!
