GREENWOOD – If you stepped outside today, you’d be greeted by a delightful batch of plentiful sunshine, gracing us with comfy temps reaching a fantastic high of 73°F. With a gentle breeze blowing from the north-northeast at 10 to 20 mph, it’s a darn near perfect day if you ask me. And let’s not forget, as night rolls around, those clear skies will allow the temperatures to dip to a crisp 45°F, with winds turning to a gentle caress, light and variable as they say.
Even though the weather seems picture-perfect, not everything is as sunny for some folks in Greenwood. As of the latest update this morning, there are about 200 neighbors still grappling with power outages. These disruptions are the aftermath of the massive blow dealt by Helene, which had initially knocked out power across the board for Greenwood County residents.
Fear not, the power restoration teams are working tirelessly to bring relief. Duke Energy’s boots-on-the-ground crew have been at it nonstop since September 27. Great news though, they’ve made significant headway, with just 122 customers left waiting for the lights to flicker back to life. Today, there are 38 active outages needing some TLC from line repair crews, as highlighted by Duke Energy’s outage map online.
“We are committed to getting every single home powered up as soon as possible,” shared Ryan Mosier from Duke Energy through email. Mosier assured that the estimated timeline for having everyone back up and running is by 11:45 p.m. today. So fellow Greenwooder, hold tight, your cozy, electrified abode is only just a bit of time away!
Not to be outdone, the folks over at Greenwood CPW are rolling up their sleeves too. They’re focusing on getting their roughly 200 affected customers back online. They’ve already restored power to some key spots, like Reynolds Avenue and Parker, among others. By half-time, about half of those customers’ power tie-ins have been all set.
Hope Walker from CPW mentioned in an email that the teams are keen on replacing some of the broken poles and are hoping to tie-up job at the Substation Six exits which couldn’t be reached earlier this week. Taking a peek at the CPW and Duke Energy interactive maps would give the latest pulse on where the power’s flickering back.
As we bathe in this glorious weather, it’s reassuring to know that both CPW and Duke Energy have their digits firmly on the pulse to resolve these pesky outages. The recent lingering issues were a steep climb, but the progress made thus far is commendable.
To all the folks looking forward to warmly-lit homes and a hum of their appliances, today’s the day to check those maps for updates. Greenwood’s vibrant buzz will soon echo through each home once again, echoing this sunny day’s vibrancy indoors as well.
Stay nearby, stay hopeful and let’s keep tabs via those trusty interactive maps for Duke and CPW. Soon enough, it will be just another memory of DC-powered candles and tales spun under twinkling stars. With the combined energy and expertise in restoring power, Greenwood will soon glow brighter than ever!
