Hello, readers!
It’s been a difficult time in the small northwestern corner of South Carolina. This week, officials are putting their heads together and searching for a local mother who disappeared at Lake Greenwood over the past weekend.
Porsha Griffin, who is just 30 years old, was reported to have gone missing while she was enjoying a tubing session at the scenic lake in Laurens County last Saturday. To give you a sense of location, Lake Greenwood is approximately 75 miles northwest of Columbia, which is the capital of South Carolina. This incident has stirred the community, and everyone is hoping for the best outcome.
According to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR), Porsha was tubing along with a friend behind a boat during the afternoon hours. The peaceful ride took a sudden turn when the tube flipped over, throwing both Porsha and her friend into the water. Thankfully, swift-thinking bystanders were able to help her friend out of the water, but, unfortunately, Porsha did not resurface.
The heartbreaking news doesn’t end there. Reports stated that during the tubing adventure, Porsha wasn’t wearing a life jacket. Such a small detail can have a huge impact on safety during water activities.
The diligent search efforts kicked off over the weekend. The team from SCDNR, armed with divers and sonar technology, started their efforts to locate Porsha. They’ve been updating the community that their search using both manpower and technology will continue.
On Thursday, a heartwarming update came in: “Our officers, investigators, divers, and airplane continue recovery efforts today for a missing woman on Lake Greenwood in Laurens County,” they mentioned. Additionally, they affirmed, “The search continues utilizing available resources… Our priority is bringing closure to the family.” Everyone is holding onto hope that these thorough search missions will bring closure or positive news to Porsha’s family.
This incident hits hard due to Porsha’s roles and achievements in life. She isn’t just any resident of Columbia. She is a registered nurse, a noble and selfless profession, and she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing earlier this year. Additionally, she serves as a staff sergeant with the South Carolina Army National Guard. To top it off, she’s a beloved mother to a charming 9-year-old daughter.
Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has any valuable information is being asked to contact SCDNR. Each piece of information can be vital in ensuring Porsha returns safely to her loved ones.
The family’s heartache and longing for Porsha’s return are palpable. Her achievements, care, and contributions to society have left a mark on many.
We will keep you posted as we receive any further updates about this ongoing search mission. Our hearts and thoughts are with Porsha Griffin’s family and friends during this very challenging time. Come what may, we hope the family finds the strength to weather this storm and hold onto hope.
