Laurens School Districts Head Back to School on Modified Schedule

Clinton, S.C. – Kicking Off the School Year with a New Twist

As the summer winds down, the schools in Laurens District 56 are gearing up for another exciting year, launching on a modified schedule that’s all set to improve the academic experience for students and staff alike. This year, schools are opening a week earlier in the summer while giving everyone a well-deserved break in October. The idea behind this shift? Balance the work and relaxation periods throughout the year, making it a win-win for everyone involved!

A Fully Staffed Transportation Team

One of the highlights this year is the district’s thriving transportation crew. Nearly 30 buses will be hitting the roads, ensuring students get to and from school safely and on time. That’s a lot of miles and a lot of happy parents knowing their kids are in capable hands.

Boosting Early Childhood Education

The district is also placing a special emphasis on the youngest learners. According to Principal Johna Finley, the 4K Child Development Center is prepping students for the year by helping them get the hang of a full school day. This thoughtful approach aims to make the transition smoother, ensuring these tiny tots are ready to thrive as they grow.

Tackling Absenteeism

Absenteeism has been a challenge, but the district’s determined to flip the script. Last year saw a significant drop in absentee rates, thanks to proactive efforts like calling parents and educating them on the importance of regular attendance. Keeping kids engaged and present is vital, and these efforts seem to be paying off.

First Day Excitement

For parents of elementary 5K students, there’s a special invitation: you’re encouraged to walk your children in on the first day. It’s a heartwarming gesture that not only reassures the kids but also builds a sense of community right from Day 1. Plus, look out for those delightful first-day photos that capture the excitement and joy of starting a new school year.

Safety Upgrades

In terms of infrastructure, the district received a Safe School grant and made significant upgrades to elementary school entrances. While some schools might still be under construction, these measures are all about ensuring a safe learning environment for everyone.

As the new school year kicks off, it’s clear that Laurens District 56 is putting its best foot forward, blending tradition with thoughtful innovation. Here’s to a fantastic and productive year ahead!
