Celebrating a Life of Service: Remembering Larry Sane
In the cozy communities of North and South Carolina, news of Larry Sane’s passing has brought about a tremendous outpouring of love and reflection. Born on November 28, 1944, in Statesville, North Carolina, Larry was the youngest of four children in the Sane family. Raised primarily by his loving mother and maternal grandfather, he grew up in a close-knit household, which became the foundation for his strong values and passion for service.
A Journey Through Education and Early Work
It all began at Avery Sherrill Elementary School, and continued through D. Matt Thompson Jr. High School, Monticello Jr. High School, ultimately leading to graduation from Scotts High School in 1963. Larry was no stranger to hard work even as a teenager; he took up several jobs, including driving a school bus and swinging a hammer as part of a demolition crew at The Vance Hotel. He also put in his time at JC Penney Distribution Center in Statesville, gaining valuable experience that would serve him throughout his life.
The Beginning of a Beautiful Family
It was while attending the youth group at Diamond Hill Baptist Church in Statesville that Larry met the love of his life, Sandra Carol Safriet. Their connection blossomed into a beautiful marriage on June 19, 1965. As they celebrated nearly 59 wonderful years together in the spring of 2024, their love stood as a testament to their life’s journey.
They made their home on East Broad St. in Statesville, an area rich in family history as it used to be farmland belonging to Sandra’s family. Their adventure continued when Larry joined the Maintenance Supply Company in 1969 as a salesman for janitorial supplies. Almost immediately, they transitioned to Mt. Pleasant, SC, with their young son, Cory, and soon welcomed their second son, Dave, in 1971.
A Life Dedicated to Work and Faith
Throughout his illustrious 42-year career, Larry juggled the demands of his family life while managing a sales district that spanned Orangeburg, Charleston, and Fayetteville. He officially said goodbye to his corporate life in February 2012. Even in retirement, Larry’s commitment to community didn’t wane. He took up a job at the picturesque Snee Farm Country Club Golf Course, where he enjoyed engaging with visitors and fellow members.
Deep Roots in Faith and Community
For nearly 47 years, Larry and Sandra were essential members of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant. Larry served in numerous leadership roles, including as a deacon and Sunday School director, while Sandra contributed through various church activities such as childcare and the choir. Their sons followed the family tradition, remaining active in church programs until circumstances shifted their memberships.
In 2017, the couple joined Pitts Baptist Church, where Larry found a sense of belonging among the Friendly Neighbors senior adult community and enjoyed singing in the senior choir. His friendships spanned both Carolinas, creating a wonderful network of connections and memories.
A Legacy of Love and Family
In August 2017, Larry and Sandra made a thoughtful move to Concord, NC, to be closer to family, eventually relocating to Taylor Glen Retirement Community in May 2022. The family reflects on the joy he brought, from his hobbies in photography and boating to his knack for yard work and recreational shrimping. Larry’s generosity knew no bounds, and his warm spirit touched everyone he met.
Farewell to a Beloved Family Man
After Larry’s passing, the family wishes to express immense gratitude to those caregivers who offered support during his later years. He leaves behind an enduring legacy—including his wife, Sandra; sons Cory and Dave; four lovely granddaughters; and several cherished nieces and nephews.
