Her journey includes securing scholarships that have opened networking opportunities, valuable internships with Deloitte, and recognition from faculty. As she prepares to step into a full-time role at Deloitte, her story highlights the importance of hard work and ambition in shaping a successful future for aspiring professionals.
In the cozy city of Greenwood, South Carolina, an inspiring story is unfolding at Lander University. Meet Elizabeth Bradley, a senior who is making waves in the College of Business with her impressive achievements and bright future. Juggling her studies and several internships, Elizabeth exemplifies determination and success.
Elizabeth’s journey truly took off during her sophomore year when she discovered the world of scholarships through the CEO of the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (SCACPA). This opportunity proved to be just what she needed because not only did she apply for the SCACPA scholarship twice, but she also won it both times! These scholarships have been a game-changer for her, providing not just financial help but also invaluable networking opportunities that have propelled her career forward.
Each year, Elizabeth eagerly attends the SCACPA convention—a highlight on her calendar. This event features a scholarship recognition lunch and an elegant etiquette dinner for students, where she gets to connect with seasoned professionals in the accounting field. Learning firsthand about the real-life stories of CPAs has been eye-opening and has helped solidify her passion for accounting.
But that’s not all! Elizabeth has gained hands-on experience through not one, but two summer internships with Deloitte, an esteemed accounting and consulting firm. Her first internship took place in vibrant Minneapolis, where the focus was primarily on networking. During this time, she made critical connections within Deloitte’s Minneapolis office and at their impressive conference center in Dallas, Texas. Building relationships right from early on has proven to be essential for her career development.
Then came her second internship, where things heated up quite a bit. This summer, she had the chance to dive into a more hands-on role that allowed her to assess how well she fit within Deloitte’s culture. No longer just a spectator, this experience helped her hone her skills, particularly in Excel, and understand how to navigate the workplace. Elizabeth learned that asking questions, even seemingly trivial ones, is key to becoming a successful professional.
Her hard work and commitment haven’t gone unnoticed. Dr. Gail Moore, the assistant dean of Lander’s College of Business, has highlighted Elizabeth’s dedication to excellence and her impressive portfolio of achievements. Her determination to push the envelope and explore additional coursework in financial services further underscores her ambition to stand out in a competitive field.
As Elizabeth wraps up her required coursework for her accounting emphasis, her efforts are set to pay off. This October, she will be stepping into a full-time position with Deloitte, ready to take on new challenges and contribute her unique voice to the firm. Elizabeth Bradley is not just a student; she is a source of inspiration for many aspiring young professionals. Her journey serves as a reminder that with hard work, networking, and the right opportunities, anything is possible.
As college doors open and close, it’s clear that Elizabeth is on the threshold of a bright future, and her story is just beginning!
