Lander University Sets New Enrollment Record as Fall Semester Begins

Greenwood, SC – September 2, 2024

The 2024-25 academic year has started off strong for Lander University with a record-breaking enrollment. The fall semester commenced on August 19, and by the middle of the first week, Lander University’s total headcount had hit 4,423 students. This milestone includes 1,471 new first-time freshmen, new first-time graduate students, and new undergraduate and graduate transfers, representing a 7% increase over last year’s new student cohort.

The freshman class alone has grown by 6%, while the sophomore class has seen an even more significant increase of 12%. Additionally, graduate and online enrollments have also risen by 4%. Dr. Todd Gambill, Vice President for Enrollment and Access Management, attributed the university’s growth to its commitment to excellence in education.

Lander University’s continued growth is a testament to our commitment to excellence in education and our dedication to providing students with an unparalleled experience,” Gambill said. “Students from South Carolina and across the globe are choosing Lander for many reasons: our innovative programs that drive workforce development, our supportive campus community, and the unique opportunities we offer for personal and professional growth.”

The university’s attractive campus life is another key factor drawing students. With 10 residence halls at near 100% occupancy, around 1,750 students have moved into campus housing. To enhance the living experience, the university invested a seven-figure sum in residence hall renovations and improvements over the summer.

A multimillion-dollar remodel of the Grier Student Center Dining Hall was also completed just in time for the fall semester. The upgraded dining hall has already been a hit, serving nearly 3,500 meals during its first weekend and 2,600 meals on the first day of classes. Joe Greenthal, Vice President for Finance and Administration, emphasized the importance of these investments, stating, “We are continually investing in our facilities and campus spaces to enrich the student experience at Lander and ensure our students’ time here is truly outstanding.”

The university’s strategic growth plan spearheaded these initiatives, leading to an impressive 59.5% increase in enrollment since 2015. Beyond the attractive campus life and modern facilities, Lander University focuses on high-quality academics and robust support for student success.

Among the growing list of campus facilities, students are eagerly anticipating the new outdoor pool and recreation facility, which features a large pool, a pavilion, and expansive patios with waterside seating. This new addition follows Lander’s ongoing efforts to provide unique and enriching experiences for its students.

As weather plays its part in shaping the day, students can expect a chance of a shower or two during the morning, followed by partly cloudy skies this afternoon, offering a high of 87°F. Winds are projected to be from the NE at 5 to 10 mph with a 30% chance of rain. By the evening, skies should clear, dropping to a low of 66°F, with ENE winds at 5 to 10 mph.

Lander University’s promising start to the academic year, combined with continuous investments in campus infrastructure and focus on comprehensive student support, reinforces its position as a premier educational institution. Students, faculty, and staff alike are excited for what the semester will bring, including new opportunities for personal and professional growth.
