Lander University has kicked off the 2024-25 academic year with a landmark achievement in student enrollment. The fall semester, which began on Monday, August 19, has seen a significant increase in student numbers, with a total headcount of 4,423 at the midpoint of the first week of classes.
This surge includes 1,471 new first-time freshmen, new first-time graduate students, along with new undergraduate and graduate transfers. This figure represents a 7% increase over last year’s new student cohort, setting a new record for the 152-year-old institution.
“Lander University’s continued growth is a testament to our commitment to excellence in education and our dedication to providing students with an unparalleled experience,” said Dr. Todd Gambill, Vice President for Enrollment and Access Management. “Students from South Carolina and across the globe are choosing Lander for many reasons: our innovative programs that drive workforce development, our supportive campus community, and the unique opportunities we offer for personal and professional growth.”
The vibrant campus life at Lander University is another major draw for students, with the university’s 10 residence halls nearing 100% occupancy with 1,750 residents. Over the summer, the university invested heavily in residence hall renovations to ensure that students have the best possible environment to live and learn.
Additionally, the completion of a multimillion-dollar remodel of the Grier Student Center Dining Hall was timed perfectly with the start of the fall semester. The facility has been an immediate hit, serving nearly 3,500 meals during its first weekend of operation, and 2,600 meals on the first day of classes.
Looking ahead, students can anticipate the opening of Lander’s new outdoor pool and recreation facility this fall. The facility will feature a large pool, pavilion, and expansive patios with waterside seating, further enhancing the recreational infrastructure on campus.
“We are continually investing in our facilities and campus spaces to enrich the student experience at Lander and ensure our students’ time here is truly outstanding,” said Joe Greenthal, Vice President for Finance and Administration.
In addition to these physical improvements, Lander University has maintained a focus on high-quality academics and student success support as part of its strategic growth plan over the last nine years. Since 2015, enrollment at the university has increased by approximately 59.5%.
The impressive enrollment numbers and continuous investment in student life and facilities underscore Lander’s commitment to providing a comprehensive educational experience. With a forecast of partly cloudy skies and a chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms, Lander University’s campus is abuzz with students, ready to embark on an exciting new academic year.
