State and local government employees, as well as law enforcement officers, now have a new and convenient option for advancing their education. Lander University has recently launched an online Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice. This program has received full approval from both the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Tailored for Professionals

The master’s degree is specifically designed to accommodate working professionals in the criminology and criminal justice fields. Students will be able to take courses that are crucial to their field, including crisis communication, crisis leadership, mental health and first responders, research methods, and theory and policy.

Graduate students will complete six core courses along with four elective courses of their choosing. This adds up to a total of 30 credit hours. One of the most attractive aspects of this program is that the entire curriculum is available online. This allows students to complete the program at their own pace, potentially finishing in two years or even less.

Real-World Focus

“Students will learn about the legal and social problems they will face in the workforce, including addiction, domestic violence, and human trafficking,” stated Dr. Lucas McMillan, dean of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences. He emphasized that the program will prepare graduates for higher leadership responsibilities in their careers.

McMillan also highlighted that the program’s curriculum was developed through strategic collaborations with law enforcement and government and security-related organizations. The goal is to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed as criminologists and criminal justice professionals.

Strategic Collaborations

Lander University has a strong tradition of providing online education for working adults. Dr. Lloyd Willis, dean of the College of Graduate and Online Studies, noted that the South Carolina law enforcement community played a significant role in the development of this program. “We look forward to serving its members as they return to school to advance their careers,” Willis said.

How to Enroll

More details about the program can be found on the university’s website. The program is designed to be affordable, making it an excellent option for professionals looking to advance their education without taking a break from their careers.

A Valuable Opportunity

The launch of Lander University’s new online Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice offers a valuable opportunity for those in law enforcement and related fields to further their education and career prospects. With a flexible and convenient online format, this program aims to support working adults in achieving their academic and professional goals.
