The Bearcats showcased impressive skills and teamwork, with standout performances from Dominic Puccetti, who excelled on the mound, and Grant Sherrod and Lowndes Still, who contributed key runs. Additionally, the game marked a significant milestone for Flagler’s coach, celebrating his 1,000th career victory. With this win, Lander is poised to build momentum for the remainder of the season.
What a fantastic day for the Lander University baseball team! The Bearcats made waves this past Saturday as they secured their first Peach Belt Conference series win of the season, going head-to-head against the Flagler Saints at Drysdale Field in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida. The atmosphere was electric, and the Bearcats delivered a performance to remember, dominating the Saints with a final score of 7-3 in Game 2 of their three-game series.
With this stunning victory, Lander’s record now stands at an impressive 12-5 overall and a solid 2-0 in the Peach Belt Conference. Fans at Drysdale Field had plenty to cheer about as the Bearcats showcased their skills against a formidable opponent.
One of the standout players of the day was none other than pitcher Dominic Puccetti from Monroe, Michigan. Puccetti took to the mound and truly shined, pitching a remarkable 8 1/3 innings. He allowed three runs (two earned) and scattered nine hits while striking out five batters. It’s safe to say that Puccetti was in rare form, leading his team with incredible poise and precision that kept the Saints on their toes throughout the entire game.
When it comes to scoring, the Bearcats were not to be outdone. Grant Sherrod from Sumner, Washington, along with Lowndes Still from Greenwood, South Carolina, each contributed significantly by driving in a pair of runs. Their efforts allowed Lander to steadily pull ahead of the Saints, creating a comfortable cushion that they effectively maintained throughout the game.
And if that wasn’t enough excitement, let’s not forget about Will McClellan from Anderson, South Carolina, who smacked his team-leading fourth home run of the season during the game. It was a moment of pure joy for both McClellan and fans who watched as he rounded the bases. Home runs have a special way of electrifying a crowd, and this was no exception!
Interestingly enough, while the Bearcats were busy snagging their first series win, the Flagler Saints were also in the spotlight for their own significant achievement. Their coach, Dave Barnett, celebrated his 1,000th career victory during the very same series against Lander. While the Saints may have faced a tough game, it’s hard to overlook such an impressive milestone for the coach.
As the excitement in St. Augustine settles down, the Lander baseball team is eager to keep their momentum going. While details about their next opponent weren’t provided, you can bet that the Bearcats are ready to build upon this thrilling victory and make a strong run in the conference this season.
For fans and players alike, this win is not just a number; it represents hard work, dedication, and the heart of a team ready to chase their dreams. Stay tuned for more updates on their journey!
