In a rather unusual incident that unfolded in Greenwood, authorities took a local woman into custody following events that can only be described as both concerning and alarming. This past Saturday, the Greenwood Police Department received multiple calls regarding a woman’s erratic behavior along the busy Hwy. 72 Bypass.
According to Police Chief T.J. Chaudoin, these calls began rolling in around 12:21 a.m. Callers were worried about a woman, later identified as Shana Flores, 49, of Conway, who appeared to be heavily inebriated and was reportedly seen undressing on the side of the highway.
“The report came in as a welfare check,” Chief Chaudoin elaborated. “Callers saw a woman shedding her clothes, and honestly, that’s not something you expect to see happening at the side of the road in the early hours of the morning.”
When officers arrived at the scene, it was clear that something was amiss. They found Flores stumbling through the parking lot of the Mavis Tires & Brakes, clearly struggling to maintain her balance. Dressed in black leggings and a purple bra—part of which left her breast exposed—Flores was visibly unsteady and emitted a strong scent of alcohol.
“She did admit to having been drinking,” the police chief acknowledged. “But she was unable to specify how much she had consumed.”
With no further options and concerned for her well-being, the officers made the decision to escort her to the Greenwood County Detention Center. Flores faces charges of public drunkenness, with perhaps more charges depending on the outcome of their investigation.
Local residents have expressed their relief that such a worrisome situation was handled swiftly. Many have pointed out that while it’s unfortunate someone found themselves in such a state, it’s reassuring to know that the community looks out for one another and is keen to report such incidents to the authorities.
In related news, the weather today in Greenwood is living up to its unpredictable nature, with overcast skies and a slight chance of rain showers. Be prepared for temperatures to reach a moderate high of 63°F, with a gentle breeze blowing from the northeast at 5 to 10 mph. As night falls, the cloudy curtain will persist, leading to a low of around 51°F. Be cautious, as a shower is possible early in the evening.
