As the city basks under sunny skies with temperatures reaching up to 86F, it’s hard to believe the struggles residents have faced in recent days. The Hurricane Helene storm left a noticeable trail of destruction and affected more than 13,500 addresses across the county.
On the brighter side, strides have been made to restore the city to its former glory. Local power companies home to Greenwood have been working tirelessly. They are restoring power one neighborhood at a time. Over the weekend, the efforts of Duke Energy and CPW have lit up various parts of the county, letting residents get a bit of normalcy back.
Electricity Restoration Efforts
Our friends at Duke Energy are making progress with major restoration, projecting most of their customers will have service back by Sunday evening. On the other hand, Greenwood CPW focused their efforts within the city. Their diligent workforce managed to re-light homes and businesses along streets like Woodcrest, Sweetwater Road, and Logan Court. That’s quite an impressive list!
As CPW’s engineering expert, Hope Walker, pointed out, challenges have been plenty. Storm debris clearing and tangled power lines presented serious obstacles, but Greenwood’s determined crew was not deterred by any means.
Residents were reassured by CPW General Manager, Jeff Meredith’s words: “Our city faced one of the worst natural disasters, but our teams rose to the challenge.” His commitment to rapid restoration is truly commendable.

From CPW’s linemen to volunteers from six other states, it has truly been a collective community effort. Local schools even stepped in, offering housing and meal services to the hardworking crews who came from afar. This assistance came at a crucial time, as hotel rooms filled due to the influx of workers aimed at restoring order.
