A tragic shooting in Greenwood, SC, left one man dead and a suspect in custody. The incident occurred early Saturday morning following a heated argument. Community members are in shock as they process this unexpected violence.
This past Saturday morning, the quiet town of Greenwood, South Carolina, was rocked by a tragic shooting that left one man dead and a suspect in custody. The incident unfolded on Highway 72/221 East around 2:20 a.m., sending ripples of fear and concern through the community.
According to reports, the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office received a call about the deadly shooting just after the clock struck 2 a.m. Deputies rushed to the scene and found a crowd gathered around an unresponsive victim, later identified as 47-year-old Samuel Raymond Wright. The sight was enough to send chills down anyone’s spine.
Emergency Medical Services quickly arrived, and they transported Wright to Self Regional Healthcare with a serious gunshot wound. Despite the medical team’s valiant efforts and an emergency surgery, he sadly succumbed to his injuries at 4:43 a.m. His untimely death has left many in Greenwood heartbroken.
Witnesses at the scene have revealed that Wright was involved in a heated argument with 23-year-old Bryson Thomas Long just moments before the shooting occurred. This confrontation escalated quickly, culminating in a tragic ending that no one could have anticipated.
After the gunfire rang out, witnesses said that Long fled the scene, disappearing into the nearby woods. However, the community’s vigilance paid off. Witnesses were able to identify him as the suspect in the shooting, leading law enforcement on a swift search to track him down.
Long, the suspected shooter, was apprehended shortly after the incident when he emerged from the woods. Law enforcement officers took him into custody without any trouble. What could have turned chaotic was handled with professionalism as they worked to ensure the safety of the surrounding community.
He now faces serious charges, including murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Long is currently being held at the Greenwood County Detention Center, where he has been denied bond on both charges. He’ll remain behind bars as the investigation thickens.
The Greenwood County Coroner’s Office has confirmed Wright’s identity but is withholding further details until his next of kin has been notified. An autopsy has been scheduled to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding his death.
Local authorities, including both the sheriff’s office and the coroner’s office, are on the case. They are committed to uncovering the complete story and ensuring justice is served. The Greenwood community is urged to come forward with any information that could aid in the investigation.
