Three women in South Carolina, including one from Greenwood County, are facing serious charges over food benefit fraud. Special agents from the South Carolina Department of Social Services, Office of Inspector General, have arrested and charged them with fraudulently receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
The individuals charged are Erin Elizabeth Barber, 48, from Greenwood, Sasha Michelle Price, 36, from Dillon County, and Robyn A. Davis, 45, from Horry County. Each of them faces one count of fraudulent acquisition or use of food stamps exceeding $10,000.
An affidavit has revealed that Barber knowingly and willingly acquired SNAP benefits by submitting eight application forms. She received a total of $21,445 in benefits during two separate periods: April 2019 to March 2020, and October 2020 to September 2023. Barber has been booked into the Greenwood County Detention Center. The case is being prosecuted by the Eighth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
The South Carolina Department of Social Services aims to take steps to ensure that similar fraudulent activities are curtailed in the future. Fraudulently receiving SNAP benefits deprives genuinely needy individuals of the assistance they require. The Office of Inspector General will continue to investigate and act upon such cases to uphold the integrity of the program.
Residents of Greenwood, Dillon County, and Horry County are closely watching the proceedings. These arrests have drawn significant attention, and there is a collective call toward ensuring fairness and transparency in governmental support programs.
