Local News: Arrest on Greenwood’s Roads

In other news around our city, there was a notable arrest on November 1st that drew significant attention. Officers from Greenwood made an arrest on Bypass 72 NW after stopping a speeding vehicle that caught their eye. The car, with a Georgia rental plate, certainly raised a few eyebrows.

The driver, a 23-year-old individual from Greenwood, encountered difficulties with the law after attempting to flee on foot multiple times and assaulted officers present at the scene. The individual’s actions didn’t end there; the report detailed how he discarded a pistol, loaded with six live rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber, near his vehicle.

Further investigation led officers to discover 14.4 grams of marijuana alongside 13 clear sandwich bags, items that are typically used in the packaging and distribution of narcotics. This discovery only compounded the situation for the arrestee, stirring community conversation.

It’s worth noting that this individual had a prior conviction back on July 20, 2018, for attempted armed robbery, which legally prohibited him from possessing any firearms or ammunition. Such incidents remind us of the importance of adhering to the law and maintaining a peaceful community.
