Greenwood, S.C. – On Wednesday, a jury in Greenwood County found a 35-year-old man, Apache Shaman Lawrence, guilty of several severe charges related to the sexual abuse of a child. Lawrence was convicted on charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and unlawful neglect of a child.
Law enforcement authorities disclosed that Lawrence began sexually abusing the victim when the child was just 9 years old. The case came to light when the victim presented text messages where Lawrence confessed to the molestation. These messages were pivotal in securing the conviction.
After the conviction, Lawrence was sentenced to 35 years in prison. Notably, he will not be eligible for parole, ensuring he serves the entire sentence. Upon his eventual release, he will be required to register as a sex offender and will be subject to mandatory GPS monitoring.
In response to the conviction, Solicitor David Stumbo remarked, “There simply are not words adequate enough to describe the evil that sexual abusers like Apache Lawrence callously unleash on their innocent victims.” He emphasized the gravity of such cases by adding, “These cases are among the most critical that we prosecute and my office will continue to relentlessly pursue justice for child victims of sexual predators.”
The community has been shaken by the details of this case. Many residents are relieved by the lengthy sentence, reflecting a collective sentiment that justice has been served. The victim’s courage in coming forward has been acknowledged as crucial in achieving this outcome.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement and the judicial system to combat child exploitation and support victims. Officials remind the public of the importance of reporting any suspicious activities or signs of abuse to protect vulnerable individuals.
While this conviction marks a significant victory, authorities continue to stress the importance of vigilance and community involvement in preventing such heinous crimes. The Solicitor’s office reaffirmed its commitment to prosecuting offenders to the fullest extent of the law.
The sentencing of Apache Shaman Lawrence serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences for those who exploit and harm children. It also highlights the courage of victims and the unwavering dedication of law enforcement and judicial officials in seeking justice. The community and advocates alike hope that this case will encourage a broader awareness and a continued push towards eradicating child sexual abuse.
