In the charming city of Greenwood, there was a buzz of excitement this weekend as the local high school wrestling program showcased its impressive talents at the highly competitive Bearcat Invitational. Out of over 50 teams competing, Greenwood High School wrestlers carved out an incredible reputation, securing an impressive eighth place overall in the tournament!

Remarkable Victories by Senior Stars

Leading the charge was senior standout Cason Howle, who dominated the mats in the intensely fought 215-pound category. In a thrilling finish, he clinched the title with a technical fall victory against Caleb Gordon from Ashbrook High School in North Carolina. Cason’s hard work and determination paid off, and his victory was a highlight for the Greenwood community.

Not to be outdone, fellow senior Luke Howle etched his name in the spotlight as well. He battled fiercely in the 144-pound finals, bringing home the win with a nail-biting 2-1 score against Kayden Fogarty from Indian Land. The twins proved to be a formidable duo, igniting cheers and pride among fans and teammates alike!

Another Feather in the Cap with Girls’ Wins

It wasn’t just the boys who showcased their skills; the girls’ wrestling squad maintained an impressive performance throughout the event. Leading the pack was Sophia Ricardo, who claimed the 125-pound title in decisive fashion, overpowering Cora Woolfolk from Virginia’s Dinwiddie High School. Bravo, Sophia!

As far as team rankings go, Greenwood females secured a commendable fourth place overall, easily cementing themselves as a competitive force. Also stepping into the limelight were several other girls who showcased their grappling prowess:

  • Guadalupe Jose fought passionately to snag fourth place in the 120-pound class.
  • Malia Hart elevated her game to take third place at 140 pounds.
  • Aislynn Castillo rounded up an impressive showing, finishing third in the 235-pound category.

Boys’ Team Holds Strong

The boys’ wrestling team also held its ground well, finishing within the top 15 overall. Notable performances included:

  • Chandler Porter managed to secure seventh place in the 126-pound match.
  • Fellow teammate Billy Williams matched Chandler’s effort, also finishing seventh in the 126-pound category.
  • Alijah Wade displayed his talents and finished strong at sixth place at 165 pounds.
