Mark your calendars for February 4, 2025, as Lander University’s own Dr. Rachel Schiera takes the stage at the Arts Center in Greenwood for the fourth installment of the 2024-25 Community Lecture Series.

Titled “30,000+ Decisions a Day: The How, What, and Why of Decisions and Decision Education,” Dr. Schiera’s talk aims to explore the incredible number of decisions each person makes daily—some estimates suggest that it can be as high as 30,000! Now that’s a staggering number! With decisions ranging from trivial choices like what to eat for breakfast to life-changing ones such as career paths, this lecture will explore how we make these choices and the underlying factors that influence them.
This isn’t just a lecture filled with theoretical knowledge; Dr. Schiera will share her specialized research on decision-making education and how generative AI impacts our everyday choices. With her extensive background in teaching students from pre-kindergarten all the way to college in five different countries, Dr. Schiera brings a wealth of international experience to the discussion. She has worked with various educational organizations, including renowned institutions like Oxford University Press, to transform teacher training and curriculum development.
Dr. Schiera holds a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and is not just passionate about education but has also been deeply involved with the Lander University Faculty Senate. Additionally, she co-coordinates the Call Me MiSTER chapter at Lander University, fostering educational leadership and teacher development.
For over a decade, she contributed to curriculum development in the Sultanate of Oman, focusing on teacher transformation and providing essential training to educators. Her work has reached beyond the classroom; she has been active in professional organizations like the Association for Childhood Education International and the National Council of Teachers of English.
