Sponsor Our ArticlesGreenwood County School District 52 is kicking off a districtwide food drive from February 17-21, aimed at collecting nonperishable food items for Lifeline Ministries. Families are encouraged to donate items such as canned vegetables and dried beans to help support those in need in the community. This initiative not only addresses food insecurity but also fosters a sense of leadership and service among students as they join together for a common cause.
Hey there, Greenwood! It’s time to roll up your sleeves and lend a helping hand as Greenwood County School District 52 gears up for an amazing districtwide food drive, happening from February 17-21. This initiative is all about coming together to support our community, particularly those families who may need a little extra help right now. So mark your calendars and get ready to dig through those cupboards!
Throughout this week, the school district will be on a mission to collect a variety of nonperishable food donations. These items will be sent directly to Lifeline Ministries, a fantastic organization dedicated to helping feed those in need. It’s a wonderful way for the schools and families in our area to make a real difference in the lives of others.
If you’re itching to contribute, here are some of the suggested items that can be donated: canned vegetables, dried beans, instant mashed potatoes, rice, Jiffy cornbread mix, canned fruits, chicken broth, sugar, flour, cereal, and oatmeal. Whether it’s something you already have at home or something you pick up on your next grocery run, every little bit helps!
Donations can be dropped off at any participating school in the district or sent along with a student in District 52. Just imagine the impact we can make as a community when we all pitch in!
This heartwarming initiative has its roots from a project started by a school counselor and student council sponsor at Ninety Six Elementary four years ago. Initially aimed at supporting a food bank in Greenwood, the focus has shifted to directly assist families in the Ninety Six community. How inspiring is that?
It’s exciting to note that all four schools in District 52 are invited to participate in this wonderful tradition! That includes Ninety Six Primary, Ninety Six Elementary, Edgewood Middle School, and Ninety Six High School. Each school is coming together to show what it means to care for one another, one donation at a time.
What’s even cooler is that this food drive has evolved into one of the largest service projects organized by the student council. In past years, the students have set fun goals to encourage participation, including an entertaining tradition of turning their principal into a human ice cream sundae. Now that’s an unforgettable way to celebrate community spirit!
More than just collecting food, this initiative is about fostering leadership and service among students. It opens the doors for meaningful conversations about food insecurity—a topic that impacts many families. Through their involvement, students gain a deeper understanding of what it truly means to support each other in times of need.
So, Greenwood, are you ready to rally the troops? Let’s make this food drive a resounding success! Collect those nonperishable items, spread the word, and encourage friends and family to join in. With every jar of canned vegetables or packet of rice, we’re not just donating food; we’re building a stronger, more compassionate community.
Remember, it’s not just about the numbers—it’s about the people we can help along the way. Let’s come together as Greenwood County and show our support for those in need. Happy donating!
