A Deep Dive into Greenwood’s Election Day Results

Now, onto the political scene where voters in Greenwood County tended to favor the Republican side of the ticket. The numbers tell an interesting tale, as the Republican ticket won the day with 64.34% of the votes, while the Democrats captured 34.89%. Here’s a breakdown of the major races:

In the presidential race, the Trump-Vance ticket lead the charge with 63.85% of the votes, leaving the Harris-Walz team holding onto 34.83% of the votes. The vacancy for the U.S. House District 3 was filled by Sheri Biggs, who won with 64.66% over Bryon Best’s 32.85%. The Alliance Party’s Mike Bedenbaugh garnered a modest 2.38%.

State and Local Elections: Republicans Seize the Day

On the state level, incumbent state Senator Billy Garrett cruised to victory with 63.89% of votes against Francie Kleckley’s 35.96%. Another decisive win was seen with State Rep. John McCravy in District 13, securing a massive 74.21% of the votes.

The race that added a bit of suspense was for state House District 12, where the votes leaned towards Jumelle Brooks in Greenwood County with 52.81%, but the statewide results ultimately kept incumbent Daniel Gibson ahead with 52.27% overall.

County Seats Held Steady – A Few Surprises in the Mix

In the Greenwood County Council race, Cathy Miller emerged victorious over Ken Robinson with a clear margin, having secured 75.91% of the votes. On the other hand, some positions encountered little to no opposition where Dayne Pruitt and Robbie Templeton kept their positions comfortably, the former with 99.36% and the latter with 98.5% of the votes.

The 2024 Capital Project Sales Tax received a nod of approval from voters, attracting 63.84% support compared to 36.16% against.

Non-Partisan Races and School Board Elections: A Closer Contest

On the non-partisan front, Niki Hutto retained a significant role on the Greenwood City Council after receiving 58.34% of votes. However, a runoff is necessary for Ward 3 city council where Annette Edwards will face off against Brandon Best in two weeks.

In school board developments, Ken Cobb reaffirmed his position for District 3 with 57.31%, but John Kinard’s win over David Trent in District 7 with 53.97% represented a notable shift.
