With the election season fast approaching, the county’s voter registration office is urging residents aged 65 or older and those with disabilities not to delay in requesting their absentee ballots. Young residents who are 17 years old but will turn 18 by General Election Day can now register to vote and will be eligible to cast their ballots. It’s noted that early preparation will help in ensuring their participation in the election process.
For those qualifying for absentee voting, it is essential to follow the updated laws. Requests can be made in person, by phone, or via USPS. Once requested, an application will be sent to the voter, which must be signed and returned. After the ballot is finalized, it will be mailed to the voter.
Residents who need curbside voting or are assisting someone who does should be aware that wait times might be long. It’s advised to consider absentee-by-mail ballots to avoid potential lines.
To qualify for absentee voting, residents must have a valid reason. Some reasons include being 65 or older, having a disability, work responsibilities, or being a student away from home. Early voting is also an option for those looking to avoid the lines on Election Day.
Early voting will take place from October 21 to November 2, Monday through Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Note that the early voting centers will be closed on Sunday, October 27.
