Greenwood County Honors Alan Hughes with Prestigious Award
Greenwood County—Alan Hughes arrived at the Faith Home Christian Recovery parking lot and immediately noticed something unusual: both his wife’s and mother’s cars were there. His curiosity piqued, he walked into the mess hall, only to be greeted by a group of friendly faces. Unbeknownst to Hughes, this gathering was organized to honor him.
Faith Home Christian Recovery’s administration, residents, community leaders, and state lawmakers had assembled to celebrate Hughes’ decades of dedication to faith-based recovery programs. During the event, State Rep. John McCravy described Hughes as a “humble man who has given his life in service to God.” Hughes was then awarded the prestigious Order of the Silver Crescent, an honor bestowed by the Governor’s Office to recognize South Carolina residents for their substantial community contributions and achievements.
James Gowan, Faith Home executive director, highlighted the organization’s impact under Hughes’ tenure. Gowan mentioned that Faith Home provided free recovery services to 641 residents in 2023 alone. Over the past 20 years, thousands of South Carolinians have received critical and lifesaving treatment thanks to Hughes’ work within Faith Home.
In his acceptance speech, Hughes expressed his surprise and gratitude for the recognition. “It was a surprise and a great honor to be recognized,” said Hughes.
Hughes’ involvement with Faith Home began in 2003. Since then, he has been instrumental in building programs, fundraising, and expanding opportunities for men and women seeking treatment. The organization now boasts four campus facilities located in Greenwood, Spartanburg, and Abbeville.
