Greenwood’s Cloudy Skies and Election Season Preparations

Greenwood, SC – The weather forecast for Greenwood today predicts considerable cloudiness with occasional rain showers. Residents can expect temperatures to reach a high of 84°F, with winds coming from the northeast at 5 to 10 mph. There is a 50% chance of rain during the day. As the evening approaches, rain showers are expected to continue, leading to overcast skies overnight. The overnight low will drop to around 69°F, with the chance of rain decreasing to 40%.

Along with the changing weather, residents should not forget about the upcoming busy election season. With fall approaching, Greenwood County officials are urging citizens, particularly those older than 65 or disabled, to request their absentee ballots as soon as possible.

Voter Registration and Address Updates

If you have recently moved to Greenwood County and have not yet registered to vote, or if you have moved within the county and need to update your address, it is crucial to take care of these updates promptly. Voter registration is particularly important for 17-year-olds who will turn 18 by the General Election, allowing them to register now and be eligible to vote.

Absentee and Curbside Voting

Registered voters who are 65 years or older, or those with a disability, have the option to vote absentee-by-mail. Note that the laws have changed. Absentee ballot requests must now be made in person, by phone, or through the USPS. Once requested, an application will be mailed to the voter, who must sign and return it to the election office. Following this, the finalized ballot will be mailed out.

For those needing to vote curbside, be aware that lines may be long. It might be more convenient to consider the absentee-by-mail option to avoid waiting.

Early Voting Details

Early voting for the upcoming elections is scheduled for October 21 to November 2, with centers open Monday through Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. . Please note that centers will be closed on Sunday, October 27. These early voting centers provide a convenient option for those who prefer to vote ahead of Election Day.

Working the Polls

The county requires over 300 poll workers for countywide elections. Those interested in working the polls must meet certain requirements and will be compensated for their time. Poll workers earn $135 ($60 for training and $75 for Election Day), whereas poll managers earn $195 ($60 for training and $135 for Election Day). Payments are issued within a week after the election.

The election office, located at 600 Monument St., Park Plaza Building, Suite 13, is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Residents with any questions can contact the office at 864-942-8585.

As the weather continues to change and the election season heats up, Greenwood residents are encouraged to stay prepared, informed, and proactive in both areas.
