Recognizing Our Local Heroes

The evening started on a high note as four brave firefighters were celebrated for their dedication and service. The council honored Kaleb Cobb, Adam Sitarz, Tripp Holtzclaw, and Forrest Attebury for their hard work in keeping the community safe. They are a reminder of the heroes that serve us every day.

Additionally, the spotlight shined brightly on Officer Tayquon Johnson, who was named the ‘Officer of the Year’ by Police Chief T.J. Chaudoin for his outstanding efforts in DUI enforcement. Over the past year, Officer Johnson made an impressive 64 DUI arrests, illustrating his commitment to keeping the roads safe. In fact, these arrests accounted for nearly half of all arrests made by the department during that time.

New Faces in Town

The council also welcomed a wave of new employees to the city workforce. Over a dozen new team members from various departments, including police, fire, and building inspection, were recognized. This influx of talent is expected to provide better services throughout Greenwood.

Waste Collection Educational Initiative

“Pile it right, trash out of sight.” This program aims to improve waste collection practices with a robust communication strategy that includes flyers and social media outreach. Mayor Brandon Smith pointed out that educating residents on the new waste disposal regulations will be critical. After a two-month grace period, enforcement is set to begin, with fines and citations for those who do not comply.
