Greenwood Gears Up for a Taste of Brazil at the 2025 Mid-Winter Ball

Get ready for a dazzling array of bright colors, flamboyant feathers, and the vibrant spirit of Brazil at the much-awaited 2025 Mid-Winter Ball. This year’s theme, Rio Baile De Self, promises an unforgettable night steeped in the richness of Brazilian culture and tradition. Scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 22, the event will take place at the James Medford Family Event Center, located on the scenic campus of Piedmont Technical College.

A Glimpse Into Brazilian Carnival

The history of Brazilian Carnival dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries when Portuguese colonizers brought the festival to Brazil. Today, the street carnivals of Brazil have become the largest in the world, attracting about 2 million people each day. The event aims to recreate this profound cultural celebration, albeit a short drive for most attendees.

Bringing Brazilian Extravagance to Greenwood

Ball chairs, Davis Renee Migdalas and Dr. Lindsay Snider, are pulling out all the stops to ensure that the atmosphere at the ball will make you feel as if you’ve stepped right onto the streets of Brazil. “We want the ball attendees to feel like they have stepped into the streets of Brazil when they come inside. We want them to forget they are in Greenwood and feel surrounded by the sounds, smells, and colors of a true Brazilian Carnival,” said Migdalas.

“This night is all about color, music, expression, and excitement. While giving to a great cause, we want everyone to have a truly wonderful Brazilian experience,” added Snider.

A Night to Remember

The evening will feature live music from the band Sol Fusion, known for their electrifying performances that blend energy, talent, and charisma. The Food and Nutrition team at Self Regional Healthcare is preparing a gourmet menu that combines familiar favorites with a touch of Brazilian flair.

Attendees can look forward to an array of flavors designed to tantalize their taste buds. An open bar and a special bourbon tent will offer spirits throughout the night. Keep an eye out for the featured drink, which will come with a Brazilian twist.

Silent Auction and Charitable Cause

One of the highlights of the evening will be the much-anticipated Silent Auction, featuring items donated by generous local businesses. The proceeds from the event will help the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation to purchase a new 3-D mobile mammography vehicle, an endeavor estimated to cost $1 million.

“Once again, proceeds from the Ball will be used to help the Foundation and Self Regional Healthcare purchase a new, 3-D mobile mammography vehicle. The new vehicle will cost $1 million. So far, thanks to a lead gift of $250,000 from the Dabo Swinney All In Team Foundation, more than $500,000 has been raised to buy this state-of-the-art vehicle,” said Ken Coffey, Executive Director of the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation.
