Lake Greenwood, SC – Lights on the Lake Fireworks Return This Labor Day Weekend
After a monsoon washed out the Independence Day fireworks on Lake Greenwood, locals and visitors will have another chance to enjoy the spectacle. The Lights on the Lake event, hosted by Connect Lake Greenwood, has been rescheduled for August 31.
The event will take place near Fellowship Camp & Conference Center in Waterloo. According to the chairperson of Connect Lake Greenwood, Jimmy Peden, the original fireworks had to be launched before dark due to the heavy rains, leading to poor visibility. “We want to make up for it by having the fireworks over the Labor Day Weekend,” said Peden.
Focused Event
This time around, the event will solely feature the fireworks display due to budget constraints. “The cost for us to add land options like bands and other activities is in excess of $20,000,” Peden revealed. “We cannot afford to add that part of the show.” He pointed out, however, that surveys have shown that over 80% of attendees primarily come for the fireworks.
The total expense for the event is $8,500, which Connect Lake Greenwood has covered. The fireworks will be launched near Camp Fellowship, but attendees will not be able to park or view the display from the camp due to a previously scheduled private event. Instead, Peden recommended that attendees who are not on a boat head to the Break on the Lake area for a good view.
Attending the Event
About 80% of the attendees last year arrived by boat, and boat access to view the fireworks remains free, making it the best option for many. Connect Lake Greenwood has been organizing the Lights on the Lake event for 11 years and expects a good turnout.
The fireworks are scheduled to be launched between 8:30 to 8:45 p.m. Peden encourages the community to attend this free event and is hopeful for clear skies. “We want everyone to have a great time while enjoying the fireworks,” he said.
