Firefighters Spring into Action as Greenwood Faces Weekend Blaze Challenges

Greenwood was bustling with activity this weekend, not just because of the beautiful weather but also due to a series of unfortunate fires that had the local fire department racing against time. The Greenwood Fire Department was called into action early Friday morning at Carolina Pride, where they tackled a potential fire scare just past midnight.

Early Morning Alarm at Carolina Pride

At precisely 12:01 a.m., fire crews made their way to Carolina Pride, responding to reports of smoke. Upon arrival, firefighters observed moderate smoke filling a large cooler room, although no flames could be spotted. It turned out that a faulty wire was the culprit behind the smoke, which was quickly ventilated to keep things under control. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and the incident was resolved without any major chaos.

Saturday’s Residential Fires

The very next day—Saturday—proved to be even more challenging for the Greenwood Fire Department. Just before 1 p.m., they found themselves responding to a residential fire at 205 N. Andrews Ave.. This time, the cause was suspected to be an electrical issue, sparking from an outdoor light on the upstairs balcony.

During this alarming incident, the upper apartment was occupied, while the lower unit was vacant. The fire quickly escalated, burning through the balcony door and shattering windows on the street-facing side due to the intense heat. Firefighters worked diligently and managed to extinguish the flames by approximately 2:40 p.m.. Fortunately, nobody was hurt, but the residents of both apartments faced displacement. Luckily, they found alternative accommodations and were able to salvage some belongings, a small relief amidst a challenging situation.

A Late Night Scare at 223 East Ave.

223 East Ave. at around 5:11 a.m.. Fire crews arrived on the scene to heavy fire pouring out of the rear of the house. The department was quick on their feet, successfully containing the fire before it could spread further. Amidst the chaos, one individual was taken to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation, while no other injuries were documented.

The collaborative effort of the Greenwood Fire Department, with assistance from the Loyal Fire Department and Greenwood EMS, ensured that all fires were managed swiftly and effectively. Community safety remained a top priority as local firefighters worked tirelessly in the face of these emergencies.

Community Support Shines Bright

While these events were undeniably distressing, it’s heartening to know that our local fire department remains steadfastly dedicated to keeping Greenwood safe. They remind residents to be vigilant about their fire safety measures and promptly report any suspicious smoke or flames. With teamwork and quick responses, they are a shining example of community strength.

As Greenwood residents reflect on the weekend’s events, there’s a sense of gratitude bubbling beneath the surface. It’s moments like these that truly highlight the importance of fire safety and the dedication of local heroes who are ready to spring into action when needed.

So, let’s take a moment to appreciate our firefighters and work collectively toward a safer Greenwood! Stay safe, and remember to check those wires and outdoor lights often!
