Greenwood, SC: An exciting new development is on the horizon for Piedmont Technical College. Thanks to an $11 million grant from the Economic Development Administration (EDA), Piedmont Tech is set to expand its offerings and enhance its health care programs significantly. This massive investment, combined with an additional $2.8 million in local funding, will enable the college to build a state-of-the-art health science facility on its Greenwood campus.
The 27,000-square-foot facility will be a game changer for aspiring health care professionals. This new building will feature multiple nursing simulation spaces, echo simulation and cath labs, six skills labs, and various classrooms and collaboration rooms. These spaces are specifically designed to mirror real-world conditions, ensuring that students are work-ready upon graduation.
Russell Martin, Piedmont Tech’s assistant vice president of marketing and public relations, emphasized the importance of this expansion. “Our college plays a vital role in supplying a major workforce pipeline to health care facilities in the region,” he said. “A key priority of this project is to create spaces that mirror real-world conditions, preparing our students to be work-ready upon graduation.” It’s clear that this new facility will be a transformative addition for both the college and the surrounding community.
While the excitement is palpable, the college is still in the early planning stages. Piedmont Tech is collaborating with a construction manager from the EDA to establish a precise timeline for the project. Martin mentioned that more concrete details would be available within the next two months. “We are immensely grateful for the U.S. Department of Commerce’s $11 million investment in our new health sciences building,” said Piedmont Tech’s president, Hope Rivers. “We look forward to collaborating with our partners to ensure this investment helps grow a strong healthcare workforce in our region.”
Piedmont Technical College offers 12 health care programs, which serve a significant number of people across the region. The new facility is expected to not only enhance the existing programs but also expand access to health care training. This is particularly crucial given the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals.
While Piedmont Tech is gearing up for an exciting future, it’s essential to stay safe in the present. Today, Greenwood will be experiencing tropical storm conditions with high winds and rain in the morning. The weather is expected to clear up by the afternoon, with some sun peeking through. The high will be around 78°F, and winds will be quite strong, ranging from 25 to 35 mph. There’s a 100% chance of rain, with rainfall expected to be near half an inch. By nightfall, skies will clear up, with temperatures dropping to around 62°F and winds calming down to 5 to 10 mph.
This $11 million grant marks a significant milestone for Piedmont Technical College and the Greenwood community. The investment in a new health science facility will help prepare students for real-world healthcare challenges while addressing the workforce needs of the region. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project and remember to stay weather-aware today!
