Bennett faces first-degree domestic violence charges following a violent incident on Foundry Road, while Chisolm, with a troubling criminal history, was charged with similar offenses and kidnapping. The community is shaken by these events, raising concerns about safety and support for victims in these trying times.
In a troubling turn of events, our cozy town of Greenwood, SC became the backdrop for not one, but two serious incidents involving domestic violence. Residents are raising eyebrows and sharing concerns as the details of these alarming cases unfold.
On February 23, 2024, police apprehended Qwentaris Jarrell Bennett, a 38-year-old man, charging him with first-degree domestic violence. The incident took place at a home on 603 B Foundry Road and has left the community in shock.
According to police reports, Bennett reportedly became aggressive during an altercation, striking a woman in the face and head with her own phone. The situation escalated, with him allegedly choking her and causing damage to the residence. The victim, unfortunately, sustained visible injuries, including a small laceration and a swollen knot above her right eye, but chose to decline medical treatment.
Authorities did not waste any time and served an arrest warrant to Bennett on the same day as the incident. Such actions underscore the seriousness with which law enforcement is treating these cases, aiming to protect the community and support victims of domestic violence.
Just a week prior to Bennett’s arrest, another man from Greenwood found himself in hot water. Kevin Lamar Chisolm, aged 49, was taken into custody on February 16, 2024, facing charges of first-degree domestic violence and kidnapping. This incident unfolded during a domestic dispute on Grier Street, where the situation took a dark turn.
According to reports, Chisolm refused to allow a woman to leave the residence amid a heated argument. This alarming behavior raises concerns as he has a troubling history, with multiple prior domestic violence convictions on his record. His past includes a second-degree domestic violence charge dating back to January 23, 2020 and an even more serious high and aggravated domestic violence charge from August 8, 2020. The community’s alarm is palpable, as they wonder why such individuals are still in their midst.
With a high of 66°F and winds picking up from the southwest at a brisk 20 to 30 mph, it might be a good idea to keep your umbrellas handy! The weather will take a turn later, dropping to a chilly low of 36°F with winds shifting to the west at 15 to 25 mph.
In addition to rain, be on the lookout for potential wind gusts reaching between 60-70 mph throughout the day. Local authorities are urging everyone to stay alert and heeding any weather warnings. With impending storms, it pays to be cautious and avoid being outdoors unless absolutely necessary.
As if the domestic situations weren’t enough upheaval, residents are also keeping a wary eye on the Carolina Forest wildfire, which has now engulfed an alarming 2,059 acres according to reports from the South Carolina Forestry Commission. The local authorities are actively working to contain the fire, ensuring that safety measures are in place for the community.
The smoke billowing across our beautiful landscapes adds another level of worry for the residents of Greenwood. As the community unites to face these many challenges, it becomes clear that support and vigilance are paramount in these trying times.
