The Inspiring Journey of Chloe Cox: From Personal Challenge to Healthcare Hero

Greenwood, South Carolina, is buzzing with excitement as one young woman, Chloe Cox, takes the reins of her future in the healthcare field. A personal experience shaped this journey—her grandmother’s diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease during her high school years ignited a fire in Chloe that led her to pursue a career devoted to helping others.

Setting the Course Early

Chloe’s path wasn’t a coincidence; it was carefully crafted during her time at Greenwood High School. In her freshman year, her enthusiasm for healthcare shone brightly as she took health science classes at the G. Frank Russell Technology Center. These foundational courses fueled her desire to understand the world of healthcare, providing her with a solid start even before she reached the higher levels of education.

Accelerating Her Education

By the time Chloe reached her junior year, she set off on an even more ambitious route. She enrolled in the Health Care Quick Start Program at Piedmont Technical College (PTC), giving her the golden opportunity to earn college credits without the burden of tuition while still juggling high school life. Talk about a head start!

Fast forward to her graduation, and Chloe had amassed an impressive 34 college credits. These credits expedited her journey, allowing her to enter Clemson University as a sophomore, focusing on her major in anthropology while minoring in life sciences. Not one to shy away from adventure, she also participated in a transformative field study in Hungary. There, she had the chance to analyze ancient human skeletons, diving deep into intriguing aspects of physical anthropology, including age, gender, and the causes of death.

A Bright Future Ahead

Chloe graduated from Clemson in 2024, equipped with both knowledge and experience, and a burning desire to become a physician assistant (PA). Her aspirations were further fueled by a heartwarming encounter with a PA who provided invaluable care to her grandmother. It became clear to her that this was the path she wanted to follow.

Back to PTC for Practical Experience

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate program. This practical training offers her hands-on experience, which is essential for any healthcare professional. Among many benefits, the program includes vital CPR certification and education in emergency medical care, preparing her for critical situations where every second counts.

Learning and Growing Through Real-World Experience

Sharon Edwards, the instructor for the EMT program, emphasizes the program’s strong focus on treating patients in emergency situations. As part of the training, students like Chloe must complete a 36-hour field internship, which provides an invaluable real-world experience that instills confidence and competence in handling emergencies.

Chloe has expressed her appreciation for the hands-on approach that the EMT program offers. She sees PTC as an essential part of her educational journey, forging her skills and knowledge as she gears up for a life dedicated to helping others.
