In a thrilling display of skill and determination, the Berkeley High School girls basketball team has claimed its very first state championship! This remarkable achievement came on March 8, 2025, during the nail-biting Class 5A Division II state championship game held at the Florence Center. The Lady Stags emerged victorious, defeating Greenwood with a final score of 60-54.
The triumph wraps up an impressive season for the Lady Stags, who finished with a record of 24-4. Their phenomenal performance this season included an astonishing 12-game winning streak leading into the championship match. Team spirit, hard work, and dedication paid off as the players rallied together to achieve this monumental win.
In the championship game, junior guard Madison Thomas and sophomore forward Amani McCray each made significant contributions, both scoring 15 points. Freshman guard Alaina Carter also shone brightly, bringing in 13 points that included three impressive three-pointers. McCray notably led the team with 10 rebounds, showcasing her talent under the basket.
The game itself was a rollercoaster of emotions, with both teams battling fiercely for control. Greenwood started strong, leading at the end of the first quarter with a score of 12-11, and maintaining a narrow lead at halftime (32-31).
