Meanwhile, Lander University now sits at 11-11, with a 6-9 record in the league.

A Second Half Surge

The first half didn’t exactly go the way Augusta fans would have hoped, with the Jaguars trailing Lander 22-17 at halftime. However, the team made some key adjustments during the break and came back with fire in their bellies. Augusta outscored Lander in the second half, racking up 41 points compared to Lander’s 31. Especially noteworthy was the fourth quarter where they shot a remarkable 83.3%, proving that they knew how to finish strong when it mattered most.

Star Performers Step Up

Leading the charge for Augusta was the dynamic Quinasia Abercrombie, who netted a game-high 19 points and demonstrated her accuracy with an outstanding shooting performance, making 9 out of 12 attempts from the field. Her ability to find the hoop was pivotal in keeping her team in the game.

Not too far behind her was Mone Florence, who contributed 10 points and came through with a crucial three-pointer in the fourth quarter. That shot not only boosted the team’s morale but also helped solidify the lead that Augusta built against their opposition. To round out the scoring, Elyse Autrey added 8 points, showcasing her all-around skills with four rebounds and four assists. Amari Jackson also made his contribution with 6 points and a couple of rebounds.

What really stood out in this match was Augusta’s defense. The Jaguars were relentless, forcing Lander into an astounding 27 turnovers. Augusta’s defense turned those missteps into 25 points, which proved to be crucial as the game progressed. Additionally, the Jaguars excelled in the paint, scoring 38 points against Lander’s defense and limiting the opposition to just two successful three-point attempts throughout the game.

The Free-Throw Factor

As if their performance on the floor wasn’t enough, Augusta also showcased their skills at the free-throw line. The team went an impressive 21 of 25, translating to 84% accuracy from the charity stripe. In comparison, Lander’s free-throw shooting was good but not quite as sharp, finishing at 76.5%.
