Good morning, Greenwood! It looks like Mother Nature has a treat in store for us today. While we started with some clouds this morning, they’re set to make way for a day filled with generally sunny skies. With a high of 61°F and gentle winds from the north at 10 to 15 mph, it’s the perfect weather to step out and enjoy what our town has to offer.
As the sun dips down, we’re in for clear skies tonight with temperatures dropping to a brisk low of 37°F. So, if you’re planning to be out late, it might be wise to grab that extra layer to stay cozy.
In a thrilling update for our local art and tech enthusiasts, VisionGreenwood is continuing its groundbreaking initiative by hosting the second Artificial Intelligence (AI) High School Art Competition. Organized initially by the Lakelands Emerging Technology Council (LETC), this unique event is now open to students across the entire state of South Carolina!
This year’s theme, “Emotion of Code”, invites students from grades nine through twelve to blend technology with creativity using Midjourney, a leading AI art-generation platform. The deadline for submissions is today, Oct. 16, and we can’t wait to see the imaginative artworks that our young talent has created.
At the heart of this initiative is a profound belief that AI not only represents a new frontier in artistic expression but also serves as a catalyst for creativity and innovation. The executive director of VisionGreenwood expressed her excitement for this venture, stating, “I can’t wait to see how these students interpret the theme and bring their vision to life using AI.” It’s an incredible opportunity for young artists to showcase how emerging technologies can fuel their imaginations.
The enthusiasm is echoed by the gallery and marketing director at The Arts Center of Greenwood, who sees this competition as the perfect avenue to inspire students to explore the vast possibilities of AI in art.
The fruits of these artistic efforts will not remain hidden. Starting on Oct. 19, The Arts Center of Greenwood will host a special public exhibition featuring these AI-generated artworks. The event aligns with the iMAGINE Lakelands STEAM Festival, a celebration that underscores education and career pathways in Science, Technology, Arts, Engineering, and Mathematics.
Running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the festival promises an engaging day for all. The highlight will surely be the reception at noon, which leads to the announcement of competition winners at 1 p.m. Cash prizes totaling $550 await the first-, second-, and third-place winners, along with a People’s Choice award. Additionally, on the evening of Oct. 18, these artworks will be projected onto various locations throughout Uptown Greenwood, providing a mesmerizing experience for the entire community.
This AI Art Competition not only provides an exciting platform for students to engage with cutting-edge technology but also paves the way for future opportunities that extend beyond our beloved Greenwood. Who knows? This initiative might become a catalyst for a much larger movement across the state and even the region.
As we look forward to witnessing these creative masterpieces, let’s appreciate the beautiful weather that sets the perfect backdrop for such an inspiring event. So, grab your friends, family, and maybe a jacket, and join us in celebrating the innovative spirit of our young artists.
