Sunny Greenwood Tuesday Unfolds Unusual Arrests Amid Clear Skies

Greetings, Greenwood residents! It’s a beautiful day in our city with clear skies and pleasant temperatures, perfect for enjoying the sunshine. With a high of 63°F and a gentle breeze from the north at 5 to 10 mph, it certainly feels like one of those days where you just want to be outside. Don’t forget to grab a light jacket as you head out, though—the temperature is set to drop to a low of 38°F tonight, with calm, variable winds adding a slight chill to the air.

Unexpected Events at Phoenix Place Apartments

The clear skies of Tuesday were unexpectedly mirrored by clear vision from our local Greenwood police officers. They were patrolling the Phoenix Place Apartments and came across what turned out to be a noteworthy incident involving a vehicle and its occupants. Included was a man the officers identified as having three outstanding attempted murder warrants, leading to a significant development in the case.

Alongside this man were two other individuals in the vehicle. An ensuing search unveiled two pistols—a detail that captured the officers’ attention. One firearm was legit, while the other had a different story, appearing on the records as stolen from Jacksonville, Florida. It wasn’t just about the guns; the officers also found eight grams of marijuana inside the car, making a seemingly routine patrol turn into an eventful arrest.

The Charges and Arrests

In the wake of this discovery, the authorities arrested Maissiah Taivaria Carter and charged him with assault and attempted murder. He is the 25-year-old from 408 Highland Forest Drive, Greenwood, who found himself in a great deal of trouble yesterday. It seems Carter’s day was going to be much different than he might have expected when he woke up.

In equally serious hot water was Jaquevio Markel Carroll, also 25, hailing from 729 Truett Ave., Greenwood. Carroll faces charges as a felon in possession of a firearm or ammunition and for possessing marijuana, though less than 28 grams.

Last but not least, there was Xavier Jamal Hawkins, age 24 from 8 Bolt Circle, Ninety Six. He was not just in possession of a firearm but stood accused of having a stolen pistol on him. With these serious charges, it looks like he and his companions are headed towards an uncertain legal future.

This incident highlights the importance of community vigilance and effective policing. Even on days when everything seems perfect, vigilance remains key. So, let’s all be more proactive, observant, and support each other along with our dedicated law enforcement.
