Sunny Weather and Exciting Political Ambitions in Greenwood City
Oh, what a wonderful day it is in Greenwood City! With the sun shining oh so brightly, we’re looking at a high of 86°F and just a light and gentle breeze. Later tonight, keep an eye out for some partly to mostly cloudy skies, and maybe a slight chance of a rain shower as temperatures dip to around 60°F. The soft winds coming from the northeast at 5 to 10 mph are just ideal for a cozy evening. Sounds like Mother Nature is treating us rather nicely, doesn’t it?
Stepping into Politics: Cathy Miller’s Ambitions
In other news, we have some interesting political movements going on in our midst. Cathy Miller, a familiar and highly respected name in our local circles, is throwing her hat in the ring for the County Council District 4 seat. This decision comes hot on the heels of the announcement that the current seat-holder, Chuck Moates, won’t be seeking reelection. Exciting times, indeed!
Cathy Miller is no stranger to Greenwood. Since she made it her home in January 1982, she’s been deeply invested in the local scene. With a solid academic background in Mathematics and Statistics, followed by a Master’s in Business Administration, both from The University of South Carolina, she’s someone who knows her numbers. She’s worked her way up in the manufacturing sector with firms like Greenwood Mills and Fuji Film, among others. But that’s not all. She’s also dived into the non-profit sector, playing key roles such as the Chief Financial Officer at Welsey Commons and the Executive Director at Beyond Abuse.
After shifting gears from the corporate world, she found herself dabbling in political waters as the interim county treasurer. This role, she says, ignited her passion for political service. Alongside this, she founded a management consulting firm and took a turn as the interim CEO of the Greenwood SC Chamber of Commerce.
A Heart Anchored in Service
Miller’s journey is paved with service — to the industry, community, and the people of Greenwood. With her involvement in organizations like United Way of the Lakelands and the Greenwood SC Chamber, and serving on multiple local boards, her dedication to civic duty is crystal clear. She’s warmed many hearts with her involvement in Greenwood County First Steps, The Greenwood Woman’s Club, and the Greenwood County GOP. Just last year, Miller was honored with the Greenwood Chamber’s Women of Excellence Award. Now, isn’t that something!
Grabbing the Bull by the Horns
Cathy Miller states her run for council is all about making Greenwood County the prime spot in South Carolina to live, work, and play. She identifies herself as a forward-thinking fiscal conservative ready to take up this responsibility. Indeed, she wants to continue the fruitful efforts of the county council.
We know what you’re thinking – when does all this start? Well, the filing for partisan candidates opens at noon on March 16 and closes at noon on April 1. The primary is slated for June 11, with the grand election day marked on November 5.
As Cathy Miller prepares her campaign trail, we’re embracing a sunny future filled with both clear skies and hopeful political strides. Let’s enjoy this sunny spell and exciting times ahead, Greenwood!
