Now, let’s switch gears from the skies above to what’s been happening on the ground. This weekend saw some significant clean-up efforts on Spring Street near the Self Regional Medical Center. Trees had toppled over, thanks to Hurricane Helene, causing quite the roadblock. But not to worry, the intrepid workers were on the job and cleared away the chaos, making sure the roads are open and safe for everyone.
Hospital Update Following Hurricane Helene
Speaking of the Self Regional Medical Center, it’s been a hectic time since Hurricane Helene swept through last Friday morning. Out of their many medical centers, all are back in business except six. That’s a pretty good track record given the circumstances!
The command center at Self Regional jumped into action immediately post-storm, showing us what it means to be ready and coordinated. They’ve done an admiring job of juggling resources to keep things running. Surprisingly, only a few physician practices were left without power, which resulted in just a handful of elective surgeries being put on hold. But hey, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
One thing’s for sure, they haven’t lost sight of their mission. They’ve gone above and beyond, offering medical shelter for folks needing oxygen. And when extra support was needed, the Greenwood Family YMCA stood up to the challenge, providing emergency help as well. Incredible, right?
Over in the emergency room at Self Regional, it’s been busy with non-emergent cases causing a bit of a wait, but the good news is, they’re anticipating the emergency operations and visitation rules to return to normalcy by the weekend. They’re doing a stellar job despite power outage hurdles, which speaks volumes about their commitment to the community.
Abbeville Area Medical Center Update
Meanwhile, the Abbeville Area Medical Center isn’t letting up either. As of Thursday, things look brighter, with emergency department demands finally calming down. That’s a sigh of relief for the hardworking healthcare team!
Following the power outage that hit their Medical Center early Friday, they kept things running on generators for two whole days until power was restored on Sunday. Both Abbeville Area Healthcare Center (AAHC) and Due West Family Medicine alongside their Wound Center also faced closures, but are now back on their feet.
The word on the street from Abbeville Area Medical Center is that they’ve managed to adjust their operations like experts. It was no small task tackling the power outage challenge, but they did it, and they did it with style.
All things considered, both healthcare facilities have shown remarkable resilience and commitment to their patients. It’s a powerful reminder of the strength within our community, even in the face of nature’s curveballs.
